Varys Capital and Verda Ventures today announced the publication of LATAM: Beyond the Acronym — Disaggregating Technological & Financial Investment Opportunities Across Latin America, a 70-page analysis of the forces reshaping investment across one of the world’s most diverse emerging markets.
Rather than treating Latin America as a single investment destination, the report identifies four distinct market archetypes: Scale Markets, Stable Builders, Crisis Innovators and Frontier Markets. Each is shaped by different economic conditions, financial infrastructure, regulatory environments, levels of digital adoption and entrepreneurial ecosystems.
The report’s central finding is that fragmentation itself can be an investment signal. Differences in purchasing power, monetary stability, financial access, regulation and digital infrastructure mean that neighboring countries can face fundamentally different problems, and therefore generate fundamentally different opportunities for technology and financial innovation.
“Latin America is not one investment story,” said Thomas Dunleavy, Head of Venture at Varys Capital. “It is a collection of markets operating under different constraints, incentives and innovation cycles.”
One of the clearest examples is the growing role of stablecoins and digital dollars as financial infrastructure. Across parts of Latin America, these assets are moving beyond speculation and are increasingly used for savings, payments, remittances and treasury management, particularly in markets where currency instability or gaps in traditional financial infrastructure create persistent demand for alternative financial rails.
“On Stablescape, our proprietary dashboard tracking around 500 stablecoin companies across Latin America, we see that each market is building to solve a different problem. That range of use cases is why we believe the region will set the standard for how emerging markets adopt digital dollars,” said Amit Chu, Partner at Verda Ventures.
The opportunity extends well beyond digital assets. The research examines investment potential across payments, credit infrastructure, tokenization, embedded finance, artificial intelligence, energy, logistics, digital identity and decentralized infrastructure. These markets are increasingly serving as environments where technology is adapted to real-world constraints, from limited access to financial services and fragmented payment systems to currency volatility and uneven digital infrastructure.
For investors, the question is shifting. The opportunity is no longer simply whether Latin America represents an attractive technology market, but which market, which problem and which structural conditions are creating the opportunity.
