NASA collaboration helps advance the technologies, operational concepts, and standards needed for scalable Advanced Air Mobility operations
ASHBURN, VA, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Metron Aviation, a Stratify Aerospace company and global leader in Air Traffic Management (ATM) solutions, together with partners AAMTEX and Unmanned Experts (UMEX), has successfully completed participation in NASA’s Advanced Air Mobility Pathfinders (AAMP) Technical Capability Level 1 (TCL-1) simulation campaign.
The simulation effort, which began in late 2025 and concluded in September 2026, with final data collection in August and September, supported NASA’s efforts to evaluate the technologies and operational capabilities needed to safely integrate Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) into the National Airspace System (NAS). AAM includes emerging aircraft such as electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles and the airspace management capabilities required to support them.
Throughout the TCL-1 campaign, Metron Aviation and partners provided a comprehensive suite of airspace and flight operations services, including demand-capacity balancing, operational intent management, conformance monitoring, fleet management, and high-fidelity flight simulation capabilities. The effort supported both human-piloted and autonomous flight operations in realistic airspace environments.
Over the course of the project, Metron Aviation and partners participated in dozens of medium- and high-density simulation runs, completing more than 1,000 flight simulations over the course of 27 data collection runs. The effort also included realistic interactions between eVTOL pilots and air traffic controllers managing arrival and departure operations at busy vertiports around Dallas Love Field.
“We are proud to support NASA’s efforts to further develop Advanced Air Mobility and evaluate the technologies and operational concepts needed for its safe integration into the National Airspace System. This work brings together Metron’s expertise in air traffic management and the strengths of our partners to help shape the future of aviation.” — Chris Jordan, President, Metron Aviation
NASA’s AAMP initiative is exploring how airspace service providers, operators, and air traffic systems can work together to safely manage increasingly complex AAM operations. The TCL-1 campaign helped evaluate new approaches to airspace management and generated insights that will help inform future operational concepts, industry standards, and deployment strategies.
The experience gained through the TCL-1 campaign will help Metron Aviation and its partners to offer secure, scalable, and validated AAM solutions positioned for Part 146 certification. Insights from the simulations will also inform future solution enhancements and industry collaboration needed for transitioning AAM from research and development to operational use.
The successful completion of TCL-1 marks an important step toward enabling AAM operations in the NAS. By validating new airspace management concepts in realistic, high-density operating environments, the project helps lay the foundation for the safe and scalable deployment of next-generation aviation services. The effort reinforces Metron Aviation’s commitment to advancing innovative ATM solutions and supporting the future of increasingly connected, automated, and sustainable aviation.
